Jack Ayland - Principal Euphonium

Jack started playing from a young age with the local Tavistock Stannary Brass Band on cornet. Since his early teens he has played in the Devon County Youth Brass Band and assisted various ensembles and orchestras.

At the age of 15 a change to euphonium was made in order to accommodate a long term brace. This entailed a brief spell on Bb Bass with Launceston Town Band, which included participation in the 2012 national finals in Cheltenham.

Two years ago Jack expanded his repertoire to include trombone playing!

Whilst progressing towards a degree with Plymouth University, Jack hopes to achieve his grade eight on euphonium in the future

Neal Mitchell - Euphonium

Neal began playing at the age of 6 on cornet, being taught at Wantage Silver Band. He joined the Highworth Silver Band on 3rd cornet at the age of 7.

The cornet became a thing of the past at 16, with Neal now playing Baritone and Euphonium.

After moving to the West Country, Neal has played for a variety of bands, including spells at St Pinnock, Launceston, and Bodmin.

Laura Bennett - 1st Baritone

Laura started playing Baritone at the age of 7 with St Austell youth band, moving into the senior band at 12 on Euphonium.

She spent 10 years with Cornwall Youth Brass Band until the age of 18, when she spent a year in Austria teaching English to children.

On her return, she went back to St Austell on Baritone and played there until she was 22.

After a 5 year break from banding, Laura felt it was time she returned and chose Soundhouse after relocating to Plymouth to start her journey to train to become a primary school teacher.

Ben Marks - 2nd Baritone

Ben started playing Baritone in Primary School aged 9 and then joined Soundhouse Brass Youth aged 10 playing the Euphonium.

In 2015, Ben passed his Grade 7 on Baritone and regularly competes in the annual Saltash Music, Speech and Drama Festival, winning the Brass Solo Novice Class on the Euphonium in 2013

In 2015, Ben was delighted to attend the Royal Marines Band Summer School and performed with them at a summer concert.
