Alan Gears - Eb Bass

Alan has moved around with his work in the banking and financial sector and has played with a number of bands including St Pinnock, Mount Charles, Saltash, Honiton, Sidmouth, Lympstone and Yeovil.

He started on Eb bass and is still there. “Better to be master of one instrument than average on several but sadly I'm still average on one” says Alan!

Andrew Embury - Eb Bass

Andy joined Plymouth Silver Band in the late 1970’s as a euphonium player and continued with the band through its transition to Crownhill British Legion band where, following a request from Bert Farlow the conductor, he taught himself trombone. In 1982 Andy left brass banding and joined the Royal Marines Band Service as a Bass player where he served for 22 ½ years culminating in a 5 year stint as the Bass Instructor at the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth.

Following his retirement from the Royal Marines Andy yet again felt drawn to the world of brass bands and spent a few years with Totnes Brass before returning to his roots in Soundhouse Brass.

Phil Evans - Bb Bass

Phil started playing the trumpet at the age of 13 progressing to baritone before ending up on BBb bass.  He played with the Saltash Band before joining the Royal British Legion Crownhill band (the previous name for Soundhouse Brass) in 1992.

Phil is an electrician who has 2 children who also play with the band.
