About Us
Soundhouse Brass is a British brass band that has been in existence for approximately 90 years. Originally known as the Plymouth City Mission Band the band had a couple of name changes over the decades changing to it's present title in 2002 when it moved to the purpose built music facility 'The Soundhouse' at Estover Community College, Plymouth. The band performs at a range of events and contests across the South-West throughout the year and regularly produces it's own concerts at the Soundhouse that attract capacity audiences. Members of the band are drawn from all over Devon and Cornwall and from a range of occupations and communities who all have one thing in common - the love of brass band music.
We are proud to announce that, after an excellent result at the Regional Championships held on the 8th March 2008, the band have been promoted to the national First Section (the equivalent of the Championship in football terms). During 2008 the band will be competing again at the brass band championships in Bugle, Cornwall and Torquay, Devon and will be defending it's title at the Exmouth Entertainment contest in September which it has held for the past 2 years!
Brass and percussion players are always welcome, either to apply to join the Band or to join in for an evening's music-making. We meet for practices every Tuesday evening 19.30 - 21.30pm and Thursday evening 19.45 - 21.45pm. Please contact the band manager for details.
As part of our committment to the development of brass playing in the community, Soundhouse Brass has developed a very successful youth band which is run by a dedicated team of members from the senior band and which is an integral part of our organisation.
Our Youth Band is for existing and new players up to the age of 19. The youth band meets for practice every Thursday from 6.00 - 7.30pm at The Soundhouse. The band takes part in our concerts, external youth music events and has this year started contesting winning in it's first ever contest at Saltash!
New players of all standards (including beginners) are welcome to join the youth band, please contact our Chairman for details.
